Law 34 from The 48 Laws of Power

Be Royal in your Own Fashion: Act like a King to be treated like one

The way you carry yourself will often determine how you are treated; In the long run, appearing vulgar or common will make people disrespect you. For a king respects himself and inspires the same sentiment in others. By acting regally and confident of your powers, you make yourself seem destined to wear a crown.

I live with this law since I started working.Oh and by the way here goes me sharing one of my favorite books that my dad has shared to me and have been sharing to my friends as well.

Be Royal in Fashion

It does not necessarily mean that everything has to be branded, it is how you carry yourself with the clothes you wear and what is most important is wearing it with confidence and a belief that you look perfectly fine. Admit it or not, we live in a world where at times we are judged by how we look...I am not generalizing but I am basing this from my experience and people I know who have experienced it. When you look common, or say not appropriately dress then there is the tendency that you are not making a good impression (but of course this can be turned around, so to speak) but say when you act like one, then there is also the tendency that you are respected. Why? Because you come prepared, you wear a hat that says "hey I look good therefore I feel good".

My past experiences told me a lot about this law, I made it a point to come prepared. I dress up not because I want to impress but I feel better and it increases my confidence. I love power dressing though my picture above is not something corporate but I make sure, I mix and match accordingly. I love corporate attire, I love being in blazer and I adore seeing a girl in jeans with a white undershirt or plain white blouse with a blazer.

This is specially true if you are in a position~ a supervisor, manager and up. You do not dress up to brag but to earn respect as well. Some companies has clothing allowance and that has to be used accordingly. When I became a marketing officer in my early 20's, I bought blouses with collar in my favorite shopping mall which is at Landmark and I must say it was affordable (up until this time), I wear corporate skirt too. When I was an agent and was then assuming post as a Performance Coach, I was into power dressing and have discovered fab finds in different stores, bazaars and even ukays. When I became supervisor way back in 2006, I didn't lose the passion in dressing and I must say up to now (though at times, I feel lazy but I still wear something appropriate)

My rules:

  • It should be simple and elegant.
  • It is not about about a set of clothes but it is an attitude.
  • Accessorize, Accessorize.

One dress at a time,
